TORNADO RELIEF EMERGENCY FUND SMALL BUSINESS GRANT

Purpose: The grant was established by the Ohio Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Indian Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and Logan County Chamber of Commerce to provide immediate support to small businesses in the Indian Lake Area directly impacted by the tornado event of March 14, 2024 in Logan County, Ohio.  This grant serves as a bridge to help businesses in the immediate aftermath of the tornado and before other funding resources become available through insurance, state/federal programs, or other recovery sources.

Grant Amount: Grant awards will be up to $5,000

Qualified Applicants: For profit and non-profit small business/organizations physically located in Lakeview, Russells Point, Huntsville, Washington Township, or Stokes Township who incurred direct damage to buildings and property during the March 14th tornado. Businesses that did not incur direct physical damage but suffered operational losses will also be eligible.

Permitted uses of grant funds: Pay for standard business operational expenses, insurance deductibles, building repairs, property replacement, sign replacement, replacement of inventory, expenses related to clean-up and temporary operations (ex; generators, dumpsters, debris removal, etc), and other recovery related expenses.

Application Process:

  • Applications will be accepted now through April 12th , 2024, with funding decisions being made on a rolling basis.
  • Funds are limited and will be awarded on a first come first serve basis to applicants who meet all eligibility requirements and submit a complete application. Grants will be awarded until all funds have been dispersed.
  • Only Complete applications, including all supporting documents, will be considered.
  • Electronically submit applications to office@indianlakechamber.org with subject line “SMALL BUSINESS GRANT APPLICATION”
  • Grant eligibility and awards will be made by a joint committee of the Indian Lake Area Chamber Commerce (minimum 2 reps), Logan County Area Chamber of Commerce (minimum 2 reps), and Ohio Chamber of Commerce (minimum 1 rep)
  • Maximum grant request of $5,000 as supported by evidence of permitted uses

HOSPITALITY RESERVE

Hospitality Institute of Ohio established Hospitality Reserve to provide financial support to Ohio hospitality employee needs and those of their families in times of crisis, such as theft, fire, illness, catastrophic life changing event, or loss of a loved one.

PROPERTY DAMAGE TAX RELIEF

Affected property owners can apply for the damaged or destroyed property reduction which will provide tax relief for tax bills payable next year, in 2025. The tax relief will come next year because property taxes are paid a year in arrears.

You can find the Damaged Property Deduction application here or you can call the Logan County Auditor’s Office at 937-599-7209 to request a form by mail or email damage@logancountyohio.gov to request one by email.

You can also visit the Auditor’s Office at 100 S. Madriver Street, Bellefontaine, Ohio between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Indian Lake Tornado Community Resources

Logan County households impacted by the March 14 tornado that ripped through the Indian Lake region are invited to apply for financial assistance through United Way’s Indian Lake Tornado Relief Fund.  Intake will occur by appointment only at the Multi-Agency Resource Center established for tornado victims, which is moving to 431 Madison Avenue in Russells Point. Financial assistance is available for needs including:

  • Housing expenses, including rent, mortgage, security deposit, hotel expenses
  • Home repair, including insurance deductible
  • Auto expenses, including car repair, car payment, down payment, insurance deductible
  • Prescription Medication
  • Utilities
  • Student hardship fees
  • Pet care
  • Other living expenses as deemed appropriate during in-take

Appointments will occur at the Multi-Agency Resource Center (431 Madison Avenue in Russells Point) in conjunction with other state and local agencies so that victims can bundle and maximize the help they can receive.  Residents needing transportation to an appointment can call Lift Delivery at 937-722-1347 for a free ride.

REPORT YOUR DAMAGE

Logan County EMA is asking individuals and families that were impacted by the March 14th Tornado to report their damage and provide contact information and pictures if you have them.  This information will be shared with FEMA as they assess our impacts to determine if we qualify for a federal disaster declaration.  Locally, we will also use this information to connect you with our Long Term Recovery Committee for assistance with unmet needs.
